Thank you for joining us. Today, our prayer leader is @Bantrybay: When I was a child, a small, wooden plaque sat on the table by my bed. On it were engraved three words – Prayer Changes Things. At the time, I had no idea what that meant. All I knew was that my mother considered it important enough to place it close to her beloved child. It has taken me a number of years to understand the meaning that is held in those three words. For my mother, who had been told that she would not be able to have children, It was a statement of God's power over man's determination. For me, it has been at the essence of my truest, best self. For those of you who gather here, it reflects a belief in something beyond that which seems impossible. Prayer changes hearts and minds. It moves us from inaction into action, from complacency to purpose. It allows us to see beyond ourselves and our needs to the lives and needs of others. It turns our thoughts inward and finally, outward. It stirs within us a sense of hope and in so doing, a mystical transformation occurs. In the moment of prayer, the veil of time and space between us and God's creation thins. We feel, in a real way, the oneness that mankind shares. Iran is no longer a country that is miles away. It is as close as our own heart. The men and women, whose skin may not be the same color as our own, become our sisters and brothers. We come to realize that religion is only a feeble word attempting to describe our relationship with the Divine. We come to realize that all hearts, in speaking to our Creator, speak the same language. In that mystical place, the world is transformed. We can see what was, yet we can also see that which could be. The possibility of a universe perfected becomes real. The pain and suffering of yesterday is transformed into peace and harmony. Oppression fades away, to be replaced by freedom and joy. Children no longer work in dangerous conditions for little pay. Drug addiction no longer clouds the minds and steals the bodies of the youth who will shape Iran’s future. Women are no longer fettered with clothing restrictions that bind the essence of who they are. Ethnic discrimination is unknown. Families which have been separated because of political ideology and fear are free to unite. The futility of the many deaths we've witnessed is altered to become the foundation on which freedom is built. Heaven and earth can become one. In the hope and belief that prayer does, indeed, change things, I ask you to join your prayers with mine- Creator, Allah, God, Father – We come to you seeking that which we find when we are closest to you. Help us this day to see beyond the veil of time and space. Help us to know with a certainty that in prayer, we are one and that you are among us. For those whose lives are filled with desperation, we pray for constancy of hope and belief in a better world. For those whose hearts and lives are broken, we pray for the stillness of your comfort and peace. For those who we see as the enemy, whose hearts are hardened by the power and greed of this world, We pray that their lives be changed by the power of the love gathered here. We pray that you fill them with the desire for truthfulness and integrity. So that they are willing to confront the injustices against their people. For those who are separated from those that they love, we pray for a steadfastness of spirit, Give them faithfulness of heart, that they will one day be reunited and free. For those who work for a people that they do not know and cannot fully understand, We pray for strength. Give them the strength to continue their work for the cause of freedom, but also- Give them wisdom. Wisdom to know there are limitations to their ability to champion change in a country that is not their own. Help us to see beyond governments, beyond countries, beyond ethnicities so that we may truly be your children. Above all, unite us in spirit and in love, for in this oneness is the power of your peace. Prayer Changes Things. Amen.
